You Hold the Key
Housing co-ops are one of Canada’s most successful affordable housing models. Federal rental assistance allows co-ops to provide deeply affordable homes to those that need it, while keeping the co-op building(s) in good shape and financially sustainable.
Renewing rental assistance will safeguard thousands of homes and strengthen mixed-income communities across Canada.

National Housing Strategy
GHCHF supports the federal government’s National Housing Strategy program.

The federal government is re-engaging in affordable housing through the National Housing Strategy. It provides a platform for the public, private and non-profit sectors to come together. Their collaborative efforts will provide more Canadians with a place to call home.
The goal of this historic strategy is to make sure Canadians across the country can access housing that meets their needs and that they can afford. Over 10 years, the Strategy aims to achieve:
- 580,000 households whose housing need is reduced or eliminated
- 240,000 new housing units created
- 300,000 homes to be renewed and repaired
- 385,000 community housing units protected and expanded by 50,000
- 300,000 households provided with affordability support through the Canada Housing Benefit
- 25% of funding toward meeting the housing needs of women and their children
