2026 Diversity Scholarship Application Form

Who May Apply?

To be eligible for a Diversity Scholarship, applicants must:

  • live in a GHCHF member co-op (please use Find a Co-op to confirm your co-op is in membership with us);
  • have already applied to a recognized, publicly funded, Canadian post-secondary education institution – community college, university, or approved apprenticeship-training program – on a full-time basis in the 2026/2027 academic year;
  • have used their knowledge and understanding of diversity to make a positive contribution to their school and/or local community.

If you are already attending college or university

The scholarship is pro-rated for your undergraduate program. For example, someone part way through a program would be funded for the remaining years of that program.

Students will have to show us

  • they are already registered full-time;
  • a transcript, showing passing marks for the program;
  • proof that they live in a GHCHF co-op.

We accept applications from graduate students.

Please be sure to

  • fill out the application clearly,
  • gather all required documents from their sources ahead of time,
  • and attach supporting documents as PDFs.

    PART A - Personal Information

    Please note: The co-op must be a member of the Golden Horseshoe Co-operative Housing Federation.
    Be sure to include the unit number if applicable.

    Personal Information is collected for the purpose of determining eligibility for the GHCHF Diversity Scholarship. Personal information is kept secure and access to applicants’ personal information is limited to those staff, and in rare cases, volunteers, who need it to carry out their duties.

    PART B - Education/Work

    Please provide a detailed description of each volunteer activity, including:

    • Date or dates of activity
    • Names of 3 other people involved
    • Name and contact info of one activity supervisor who can confirm your participation
    • How you contributed specifically
    • One thing you learned from the experience

    It is mandatory to list 3 activities within the past 4 years.

    PART D - Essay

    This essay has three parts. You must answer all three parts. Your essay must be no fewer than 500 words and no more than 750 words.

    1. Tell us one thing your school or your housing co-op has done related to any one or more of the concepts covered in the reading materials linked below. Include details like dates, times, locations, attendance numbers, and so on.
    2. In your opinion, was the initiative described in paragraph 1 successful or not successful? Why do you have that opinion?
    3. If you were on your co-op board or on the student council of your school, describe one thing you'd like to do that you think would increase diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Use specific details that relate to your co-op or board.

    Answers will be assessed on:

    • How well you incorporate the reading materials
    • How well you follow instructions
    • How much specific detail is included
    • How you link your observations to your own life

    We understand that many people use generative AI to answer essay questions. We prefer that you write original material that reflects your circumstances and your thinking. If, however, you choose to use AI to answer this question, please describe how you used it and why you used it.

    PART E - Financial Situation

    Please fill in the chart below with approximate amounts. Include all of your expenses and income sources for the upcoming academic year, not including the Diversity Scholarship. Please remember, you are calculating for the entire year and not just the school year. Misrepresentation of your financial situation will result in your application being disqualified.

    PART G - Consent & Declaration

    1. Scholarship decisions may only be made by the Golden Horseshoe Co-operative Housing Federation and that these decisions are final.
    2. Scholarship funds will only be granted to me if I am enrolled full-time, in a publicly funded Canadian college or university or approved apprentice-training program for the upcoming academic year.
    3. If I am successful, my name and photograph will be published on the GHCHF website.
    4. I will participate in GHCHF functions when requested.
    5. By attending a Diversity Scholarship event I consent to having my photo taken by a photographer and allowing it to be circulated on social media and GHCHF’s website.
